Due to the situation we are living in, when planning a trip, people opt for road trips, sometimes with their pets. Therefore, there are some indications that you must take into account if you want to travel safely with your pet.
Here are some recommendations according to the DGT (Directorate-General for Traffic):
- Use the correct restraint system. There are different types of restraint systems required depending on the animal.
- It is not allowed to travel with a loose animal inside the vehicle. It is punishable by fines up to €100.
- If your animal suffers from dizziness during any trip, consult your veterinarian.
- Avoid leaving your pet alone in the car and protect it against high temperatures that can harm him.
- Keep the door lock activated to prevent the animal from leaving the vehicle.
The safest option is to place the carrier with your pet on the floor of the vehicle. If your pet is large, place it in the trunk in a transversal manner in relation to the direction of travel.
If you decide to carry your pet with a special safety belt for them, make sure that the harness is adequate in order to avoid suffocation in an accident or sudden brake.
Travel and enjoy a safe trip with your pet!
